THE COMPANY
JAZZANTIQUA DANCE & MUSIC ENSEMBLE
Founded in 1993 by choreographer Pat Taylor, JazzAntiqua Dance & Music Ensemble celebrates the jazz tradition as a vital thread in the cultural fabric of African American history and heritage, and a defining element of the American experience.
The company embraces the “movement in the music” -- the physical embodiment of jazz music; the stories, legacy and language embedded therein; the social, cultural and political implications across time; and the freedom, joy, self-determination, and community at the heart of this life affirming expression.
JazzAntiqua has been presented at the Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival, Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, Hollywood Bowl (Playboy Jazz Festivals), Los Angeles County Museum of Art, California African American Museum, Nate Holden Performing Arts Center, The Jazz Bakery, Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts, The Southern Theatre (Minneapolis), Mesa (AZ) Performing Arts Center and CIAEI Theater in Brazil, among many other venues.
Recognitions include support from the National Endowment for the Arts, California Arts Council, California Humanities, Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, Black Art Futures Fund, and the Doolittle Foundation.
